As destinations go, the Colombian city of Cartagena takes some beating. With stunning scenery, equally stunning architecture and a wonderful atmosphere, it is little wonder so many people are now choosing it for a vacation. That the Cartagena restaurants, bars and cafes are excellent too, it is perfect for many reasons.
The restaurants are heavily inspired by the seafood which is readily available of course. With a colonial tradition going back through the years, whilst there is definitely a South American theme, this is also complimented by the Mediterranean connections.
Palma: Right within the colonial heart of the city, this place is ideal to taste how well the Caribbean and Italian flavors combine. With a stunning dining room too, and al fresco dining on the roof terrace, there is a touch of chic appeal which wonderful compliments the old.
Restaurante 8-18: Another great eatery within the colonial center, it is tailor made for larger groups of people. With an open plan kitchen to see just how hectic a service is too, it is a good place to head for a little inclusive entertainment as you eat.
La Perla: Here, cocktails and cuisine come together to create a heady mix. With influences drawn from the local ingredients, a Peruvian owner, and the colonial past, the food is wonderful. Livelier than other places, it is a great place to spend a few hours.
Club de Pesca: Offering the best fish and seafood the region has to offer, this is one of the best places for a real taste of traditional Colombia. Right on the coast, the views are something to savor as much as the food which comes with it.
There are a great many other Cartagena restaurants for lucky vacationers to enjoy here and, for wine enthusiasts El Refectoria within the Sofitel hotel is certainly one to consider. La Vitrola too is excellent, as is the Cuban Guantanamera. With so many more though, everyone will find a favorite.
