There are countless wonderful hotels in France, but sometimes the exclusive seclusion offered by a villa or chalet is just what you need to really enjoy your holiday. The combination of privacy and luxury, beautiful locations and outstanding service mark the very best French luxury villas and chalets from their competitors. A catered villa with its own staff offers you the kind of personal attention that is rarely found at even the top hotel, and a self-catered villa can offer you the peace and seclusion to get away from it all.

If that all sounds perfect and you are looking for a few accommodation options to get you started, here are five of the finest chalets and luxury villas in France…

The Annapurna Chalet, Chamonix

Perfect for a five star ski holiday or just a relaxing break amid the Alps, the Annapurna Chalet in Chamonix is one of the premier accommodation options in France. With a dedicated staff, including a resident Chef, your every wish can be catered for, and the simple yet luxurious wooden architecture and excellent facilities (including an indoor pool and outdoor heated spa) ensure that this is an Alpine break with all the amenities of the very best luxury hotels.

La Bastide De Grand Boise, Provence

Located in the heart of Provence, it only opened in 2007 but is already recognised as one of the grandest luxury villas in France. Surrounded by vast swathes of olive groves and vineyards and designed in the Provencal style, La Bastide De Grand Boise is a real feast for the senses. It can accommodate up to sixteen visitors, and is especially recommended for families – the swimming pool and gardens of this French luxury villaare perfect for keeping children entertained.

Le Mas De La Rose, Provence

Also located in the beautiful Provencal countryside, Le Mas De La Rose is another excellent option if you are looking for a luxury villa in France. Accommodating up to twenty people, the simple elegance of the stone architecture and the landscaped garden make this one of the most picturesque French luxury villas.

Les Granges D’en Haut, Chamonix

This group of chalets, located near Chamonix, is another excellent option for a luxury ski break. Laid out like a tiny village complete with gardens and winding paths, it is an idyllic retreat in the heart of the French Alps – this luxurious village also features its own restaurant and a spa, along with private massages available in your cabin. Whether you come to enjoy the excellent skiing in winter or the delights of an Alpine spring, Les Granges D’en Haut is an outstanding accommodation choice.

Manoir De La Baronie, Dordogne

Manoir De La Baronie offers all the benefits of a luxury French villa within the charming elegance of a converted country house. This is the perfect home-away-from-home to explore the Dordogne, one of France’s premier wine regions, and the extensive activity facilities, on-call house staff and the rustic comfort of the bedrooms and living spaces combine to make this a real hidden gem.

There are few countries that can accommodate a luxury lifestyle as well as France. From the world-renowned cuisine to the quality of the luxury hotels in France, it is a nation that understands the finer things in life.

If you want to travel in style on a holiday to France you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting your accommodation. There are plenty of superb boutique hotels throughout the country, but if you are looking to stay in the most prestigious French luxury hotels, there are a few that stand out from the crowd…

Royal Resort Evian
Perfect for…a luxury retreat in the countryside

Most of the largest luxury hotels in France are concentrated in the cities, but if you long to combine five star grandeur with the relaxation of a rural retreat, the Royal Resort Evian is the perfect choice. Located at the foot of the French Alps and on the banks of Lake Geneva, it is set in its 47 acres of ground – few luxury hotels in France can boast of so enviable a location. Inside, it is a marvel of baroque architecture and hand-crafted wood furnishings. As soon as you walk through the front door, there’s no doubt that you are in one of the finest European hotels, and with 11 restaurants, a spa, casino, theatre and its own golf course, you’ll never lack luxury experiences to keep you entertained. And neither will the children as any one aged between three months and 16 are looked after and entertained on a Royal scale throughout the year.

Plaza Athenee
Perfect for…Living the high life in Paris

There are plenty of great luxury hotels in the French capital, but there are few that can match the Plaza Athenee for prestige, location, and quality of service. Located just off the prestigious Champs Elysees and close to the Eiffel Tower, the Plaza Athenee has played host to the rich and famous for almost a century since its opening in 1911. Amongst its many excellent rooms and suites, the Eiffel Penthouse Suite offers guests stunning views out across the city and the Royal Suite, with almost 5000 square feet of floor space, is one of most prestigious rooms in Paris.

The quality doesn’t stop at the rooms, however – the resident Chef, Alain Ducasse, is the country’s finest and most famous, and his three-Michelin star restaurant in the Plaza Athenee offers a fantastic gastronomic experience. Other facilities include a new spa, three other eateries and Le Bar du Plaza – one of the most chic nightspots in town. There may be smaller, more intimate hotels in Paris, but for prestige and grandeur, it is hard to beat the Plaza Athenee.

Carlton Intercontinental Cannes
Perfect for…socialising with the jet-set

Every year in May, Cannes becomes the centre of the film world as the Cannes Film Festival rewards the best films of the previous year. The Carlton Intercontinental Cannes is one of the few hotels that the stars choose to stay in, and the hotel has a long association with the film industry – the 1950’s Cary Grant’s classic “To Catch a Thief” was set and filmed in the hotel. This is simply one of the finest luxury hotels in France, offering an exclusive beach front location and private beach, a chic piano bar, and much more besides – if you want to feel like a movie star on your holiday in France, the Carlton Intercontinental is the place to stay.

For those who want a truly relaxing luxury holiday abroad, a stay at a spa hotel can be the perfect choice. Every good spa hotel prides itself on the quality of its facilities and service, but there are some places that are truly a cut above the rest.

I’ve put together a list of some of the finest luxury spa hotels in the world. Some of them are remarkable because of their outstanding facilities or a special location, while others offer some of the most advanced and inventive health and beauty treatments available. Whatever their strong suit is, each one of these luxury spa hotels guarantees the ultimate in comfort and relaxation…

Evian Royal Resort, France

Located in the shadow of the French Alps on the shores of Lake Geneva, this luxury spa hotel is built on a grand scale; it won’t suit those who are looking for a small, secluded getaway, but if you are looking to enjoy the superb facilities of a larger hotel, the Evian Royal Resort will be just right. It features a golf course, casino, and a number of sports facilities, but it is the spa that is the star attraction. Its Eastern inspired course of treatments emphasises synergetic cuisine, with a personalised diet working with the treatments you undertake. The spa also offers a unique range of programmes for pregnant women and new mothers.

Sultana Oualidia, Morocco

The location of the Sultana Oualidia is simply unbeatable. Positioned on the Atlantic coast just south of Casablanca, this boutique hotel looks out over a turquoise blue lagoon and is surrounded by a dramatic series of cliffs. It has only eleven rooms and suites, giving it a small and personalised feel, and the beautiful design emphasises materials (oleander, stone and marble) that perfectly complement the natural surroundings. At the centre of the hotel is a luxury spa, with a hammam, sauna and a marble indoor swimming pool. The Sultana Oualidia offers a superb combination of great location, design and facilities.

Le Mas Candille, France

This luxury spa hotel, located just fifteen minutes away from Cannes, is home to the very Shisedo spa to be opened in Europe. Shisedo, a famous Japanese cosmetics company, specialises in advanced products for the body and hair, so this is the place to come to for the very best hair and skin treatments in the world. The rest of the hotel doesn’t disappoint either, with elegant design, outstanding service, and a peaceful location in the quiet village of Mougins.

Capri Palace, Capri

The Capri Palace is perhaps the most famous luxury spa hotel in the world, with celebrities flocking to this hotel every year for their own personalised treatments. Located in a striking cliff top location high above the ocean in Capri, this spa hotel centres around the Capri Beauty Farm overseen by Professor Francesco Canonaco, a renowned expert in advanced health treatments. There are over 60 available, including advanced treatments such as coffee peels and medicated mud applications. If you want to experience the very latest developments in health and beauty, a stay at this luxury spa hotel is just what the “Professor” ordered!

Chateau de Mirambeau, France

Out of all the spa hotels on this list, the Chateau de Mirambeau offers perhaps the most luxurious design and décor – it is a spectacular French Chateau situated at the centre of its own eight hectare park near Bordeaux. This luxury spa hotel has an exquisitely restored interior with carefully chosen antiques and the finest materials, and the Well Being Centre attached to the Chateau de Mirambeau is superbly equipped and offers massage facilities, a sauna, Jacuzzi, hammam and swimming pool. This spa hotel is a feast for the eyes and a treat for the body.

The spa also offers a unique range of programmes for pregnant women and new mothers.

google_ad_height = 250;
// -->

Stephanie Clarke is the Managing Director of Concierge Collection, providers of some of the finest luxury spa hotels in Europe. Stephanie and her team use their wealth of experience, expertise and contacts to achieve “Beyond Special”. For Concierge Collection, luxury does not have to have a large price tag but the hotels do have to be unique.

To know Paris you must know the Paris 20 Arrondissements, or the neighborhoods of Paris. They move out from the center of Paris like a snail. Each Arrondissement has its own unique character. The first, number 1 is the center of Paris where you will find most of the tourism and attractions, like the Louvre. 2 is the business district where you can find the Bourse and Bibliotheque Nationale. Mansions of the 17th century can be found on 3 and 4, which make up one of the oldest and liveliest neighborhoods in the city.

If you are looking for the famous Latin Quarter amongst the 20 neighborhoods in Paris, it is located in 5th, a small neighborhood named for the Sorbonne. Bohemians and intellectuals used to call 6 their home. Now this arrondissement known as St Germain is gentrified and home to the newly chic. The Eiffel Tower is in the 7th, and the most famous attraction in Paris. The upscale 8th is the area surrounding the Champs Elysee and is arguably the touristiest of all Paris, and considered one of Paris’s less pretentious neighborhoods. The red light district, although quickly fading can be found in the 9th where you can visit the Paris Opera and a mixture of residences and businesses. The Moulin Rouge can be found in the 9th.

Don’t worry we’re halfway through! At the halfway mark number 10, you can find both of Paris’s train stations interspersed amongst a bohemian multi cultured neighborhood. 11 and 12 are primarily residential neighborhoods although in 11 you find the New Opera and the Bastille. Lucky number 13 is also residential, but if you happen by, you want to check out Paris’s Chinatown which calls 13 its home. 14 is also very residential. However, 14 has very charming cafes and restaurants, and Montparnasse can be found here. 15 is considered an affordable residential neighborhood bordering the 7th and the River Seine.

Amongst the Paris 20 Arrondissements, 16 is considered the ultimate residential neighborhood for the wealthy. 17 is a very diverse neighborhood and is where the L’Arc de Triomphe can be found as well as, Parc Monceau. Montmartre is located in number 18, considered to be a very artsy and touristy locale. 19 is considered a very ethnic residential neighborhood sporting many shops and restaurants. And finally, 20 is the home of most Parisian yuppies as well as, Belleville and Pere LeChaise cemeteries.

An article to guide you when visiting St. Tropez, France. This will help you find the nicest spots and how to move about the area.

By Gie Santos

Named after the saint, Saint Torpez, gladiator and attendant to Nero, St. Tropez, France has long gone from a small fishing village to this celebrity tourist’s destination that you have been hearing about. This side of France is a little wild, crazy and somewhat isolated as St. Tropez could only be accessed easily by boat and roads are narrow to ever consider driving around a car.

St. Tropez is busy at high months of summer with visiting celebrities and tourists alike. With these months, it is harder to make it there unless you bring your own yacht. If you are visiting during these months, don’t forget to pack infinite amount of money as prices skyrocket up into the sky. Plan your visit around spring or autumn when restaurants and accommodations are more affordable and beaches are more inviting to truly experience St. Tropez.

Private beaches sit side by side with those available to public. Most of these beaches do not mind people bathing and sun tanning naked. So, if you are a conservative tourist, this area may not work for you. Baie de Pampelonne or Grania for locals is where the beaches are located. It offers many private and public properties along its coast.

La Plage de Tahiti, home to the best beach club Le Club 55, is the most charming stretch of beach in St. Tropez.

Visit Vieux Port to experience St. Tropez in its classical description, yacht, beach, celebrities and much more bodies.

Getting bored at nights is never a problem in St. Tropez as it specializes in night life. Bars and clubs dotted the city a great deal. Check out Les Caves du Roy at Hotel Byblos for a party to last your lifetime.

If you are visiting with kids in tow, it is much better to bring them in a more wholesome environment such as the museums. St. Tropez has its own share of museums to be proud of. Citadel is a maritime museum that opens daily. Musée de l’Annonciade is an old chapel turned into a museum, west of the port that highlights the works of famous artists like Signac and Matisse. Former home to photographer JH Lartigue, La Maison des Papillons has been converted to a beautiful museum that housed an extensive collection of some 4,500 species of butterflies; some of them are endangered and collected by the noted photographer himself.

Stop by at Place des Lices Market, opens Tuesdays and Saturdays. The place is an open-air market selling different good items that St. Tropez offers. Cars are not advisable in this area so better walk or paddle your way with a bike.

Sights to behold in St. Tropez, France are the Chapelle de la Miséricorde, Château Suffren and Quartier de la Ponche. Chapelle de la Miséricorde is an impressive chapel located near the port and one of the most beautiful baroque buildings in the world. On the other hand, Château Suffren is one of the oldest landmarks in St. Tropez. Popular antique shops can be found here. Being the most stunning section in St. Tropez, the Quartier de la Ponche is a cobblestoned street highlighting restaurants, diners, shops and hotels.

Many quality merchandises are offered by St. Tropez and most of the famous products are locally made. Cogolin has been famous for their pipes for centuries. Kiwi is where the bathing suits come from. Handmade, thick-soled Tropezienne sandals are bought from Rondini for $85. Towels, bathrobes and linens come from Stranos and the mouth watering pastry tarte Tropezienne are sold in Boulevard Louis Blanc and Place des Lices.

Lovely olive oils, popular throughout the region can be obtained at O & Co. store.

Giselle Santos
