There are a lot of us who would admit to having the “travel bug” in our system and I was just wondering how many of us travel bugs have ever been to Mykonos, Greece. For those who haven’t been there yet, let me give you a brief background about this beautiful island. Mykonos is a Greek island and a favorite tourist destination for people from all over the world. It is very much renowned for its cosmopolitan character and its pretty intense nightlife.

If you ever have plans of visiting Mykonos and you’re wondering about what types of accommodations would be available for you, there are a lot of hotels in Mykonos for you to choose from. For instance, you might want to stay at the famous Belvedere Hotel at the heart of Mykonos Town. The Belvedere Hotel would always be at the top of my list as far as Mykonos accommodations are concerned.

Of course, there are also a lot of luxury hotels in Mykonos that are available to cater to your needs. There is never a shortage of accommodations in Mykonos whether it would be luxury hotels or just simple hotels that would fit your travel needs.

Restaurants also abound in Mykonos. There are very cozy restaurants that are ready to serve you sumptuous meals at any time of the day whether for breakfast, lunch or for dinner. You would be sure to relax to the casual but elegant atmosphere that most restaurants have to offer. Not only that; you’d be able to sample a variety of dishes ranging from Greek and Italian specialties as well as Arabic dishes which are only a few of the famous world class cuisines that these restaurants have.

Worried about spending the holidays in Mykonos? I really don’t think there’s anything to worry about. Mykonos holidays have always been known to have a reputation of being so much fun which adds to its sophisticated and cosmopolitan image. The party never stops in this beautiful sunny island. Exploring the winding side streets and alleyways of Mykonos is an adventure in itself. These streets are lined with little bars and lounges that range for cool casual to high energy disco. In Mykonos there is nightlife that are sure to please everyone. The streets themselves are a permanent fixture that adds to the spectacular holiday atmosphere when spending holidays in Mykonos.

If this isn’t enough to get you excited, wait till you get to see the beautiful beaches that Mykonos is famous for. There’s always plenty of room for everybody to stretch out and feel relaxed under the hot sun while enjoying a cool drink. I’m sure you would also enjoy swimming in Mykonos’ warm, crystal clear waters which is too beautiful for anybody to miss out on.

I could simply go and talk about Mykonos all day. All I could say is that there’s too much about this island paradise that you need to experience yourself for you to appreciate how wonderful and blessed this part of the Greek island is.

Travelers who expect to be greeted by lone standing relics of ancient Greece will be awestruck by the sprawling urban metropolis of today’s Athens. The capital city is an explorer’s paradise as historic gems are embedded within the modern day melee and cultural nuances of a turbulent past are written between the lines of concrete and the sparkling blue Aegean Sea. Everywhere in Athens is a testament to why this mythic peninsula is considered the cradle of Western civilization and modern democracy.

Of particular interest, Athens received a much needed facelift in preparation for the 2004 Olympics. Notorious for its nefos (smog) resulting from rapid growth and congestion following World War II and the Cold War, Athens realized the need to clean up its act when it became clear that historic monuments were eroding at an alarming rate due to acid rain from air pollution. Due to this Olympic makeover, it is extremely easy to navigate around the well marked streets in English and Greek and transportation has never been more streamlined.

Mythological Mythos
Ancient Greece reached its societal peak in the 1st century BC when magnificent monuments like the Parthenon and the Temple of Athena Nike were constructed on the fortified Acropolis and Socrates and Plato developed their Western thinking schools of thought. While most of the major attractions from the time period are in the center of the city, travel in the outskirts of Athens will bring encounters with many significant locations from this time period. Marathon, of the famous battle (and today’s 26.22 mile race), is just northeast of Athens and the ancient Mycenaean excavation site at Velatouri is to the south, boasting the unearthed Thorikos theatre. While the Grecian period is omnipresent, Greece has fascinating Turkish and Persian cultural influences as a result of many wars and takeovers until the collapse of the Ottoman Empire in the 20th century.

Club Hopping or Island Hopping?
In the spring and summer evenings, enjoy the cafés and restaurants as they begin to spill into the streets and squares. Greece, and particularly Athens, is notorious for its boisterous and tireless nightlife. The Port of Piraeus comes to life as many vacationers head out for their island excursions from this historic cove. Athens is the perfect place to become immersed in Greek culture and life before taking a ferry ride to one of the surrounding tranquil, historic or party islands – the choice is yours. The port itself is also of particular historic interest. One of the oldest in the world, the port was heavily used during the Peloponnesian Wars in the 4th century BC and remnants of the long Themistoclean Walls, which fortified the port and Athens together during this time period, still survive today.

A trip to Athens is not only a journey of history, but one of modernity and progress. After Greece’s golden age, Athens’ grandeur was squandered to nearly nothing by invaders and the sweeping tides of history. Today, the free and booming capital city is again a testament to its historic commitment to forward thinking civilization. Experience the rebirth of the foundations of the western world in Athens!

Why holiday on one Greek island when you can plan a trip that includes visits to many? Getting around takes a bit of planning, but you can choose from cruise ships, ferries, yacht charters or air travel. Accommodation options include rental villas, hotels, guest houses and home stays. Listed here by region are 20 of the most popular Greek island destinations.

Cyclades Amorgos Rugged Amorgos, the most easterly of the Cyclades islands, has beautiful sandy beaches, a precipitous coastline, peaceful and serene bays and the magnificent Monastery of Hozoviotissa. Tourism infrastructure is rudimentary which this makes for a laid-back charm. Delos First inhabited in 3000 BC, this small island was the religious and commercial centre of ancient Greece. There are no towns or accommodation here, just quietness and a sense of history in the archaeological ruins. Folegandros This small, beautiful island has plenty of accommodation. Its busy port of Karavostassi has an extensive selection of restaurants and hotels, while Cars and motorcycles are banned in the cliff’s edge village of Hora. Mykonos This cosmopolitan island, an expensive travel mecca, with unique cycladic architecture, bare hills, narrow alleyways and streets and red-roofed churches, is everything that Greek islands are famed for. Naxos Mount Zeus towers over this relatively quiet and charming island which is green and fertile. Pretty agricultural villages are perfect for experiencing island life sampling fresh produce including wines and olive oils. Paros On the main ferry run and popular with all types of travellers, Paros has picturesque inland villages, a busy port main town and some pretty beaches, particularly in the north around the fishing village of Naoussa. Santorini The most popular of Greek Islands. From the archaeological wonder of Akrotiri, a town preserved in volcanic ash, to its rocky outcrops and charming white-washed domestic architecture, Santorini is one of the world’s most spectacular islands. Sifnos This mountainous island, a 3-hour ferry trip from Pireaus, has enchanting fertile valleys and medieval architecture, a fine archaeological museum and tranquil sandy beaches. A wide range of hotels, tavernas and shops cater for island visitors. Syros The administrative centre of the Cyclades, Syros has a busy harbour and shipyard, lovely beaches, attractive architecture and many churches and museums. The interior of the island has many fruit and vegetable farms. Tinos The third largest of the Cycladic Island group, a 30-minute ferry ride from Mykonos, Tinos is an important destination for religious pilgrims. The inland villages, nestled into the mountain slopes, are connected by a network of walking paths. Crete The largest of the Greek islands, mountainous Crete has it all, including bustling towns, idyllic rural villages, fields of olives, fruits and vegetable crops, sandy beaches, stunning ancient ruins and a world-class archealogical museum. Dodecanese Rhodes Green and mountainous, Rhodes is renown for its natural beauty, fine architecture, and its cosmopolitan charm. It is the most popular of the Dodecanese islands, and its superb variety of architectural treasures and top museums bring visitors year round. Kos This fascinating island is rich in Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Venetian archaeology and the agricultural interior is perfect for bicycle riding. There are daily ferries to and from Pireaus, and Turkey is just a short boat trip away. Ionian Corfu Popular Corfu, the greenest of the Greek islands, has ancient ruins, castles and distinctive Italianate architecture in Corfu town. The old fort (Paleo Frourio) is the location for a Sound-and-Light show in summer. Kefalonia Known as the location for filming of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, this rocky island, with its pine forests and many species of wildflowers and herbs, is becoming a popular destination. Loggerhead turtles nest on Kefalonian beaches.

North East Aegean

Chios

Just a few kilometres from the coast of Turkey, in the Aegean Sea, Chios has many churches and monasteries, medieval villages and ancient monuments, which date from times under Macedonian, Roman, Turkish and Greek rule. From beautiful beaches and coves to mountains and traditional villages, the island is a delight to explore.

Lesvos

The third-largest Greek Island is a good budget destination with idyllic beaches, fascinating villages, hot water springs and a variety of flora and fauna. Mainly agricultural, the provincial economy is based on olive oil and ouzo.

Saronic Gulf

Aegina

A great beginner’s Greek island experience, Aegina is a perfect day trip by ferry from Athens. A city state in ancient times, be sure to visit the ruins of Paleohora, one of the best-preserved ancient Greek temples.

Angistri

Intimate sandy beaches are the trademark of this small island near Aegina. But there is also an interesting farming and fishing side of the island that is off the beaten tourist track.

Hydra

Head for the waterfront restaurants and cafes of Hydra Town on this famed maritime destination for great Greek ambience. Wander around and view the old sea captain mansions, and check out some of the hundreds of old churches.

Poros

Handy to Athens, the busy town of Poros is an island joined to the island of Poros by a causeway. The island is home to the scant remains of the Temple of Poseidon but the beaches are not so good.

Spetses

Famous for its great beaches and nightlife, Spetses also has a harbour known for its wooden boat building industry. The main square in the town, the Dapia, has lots of interesting restaurants, while on the busy waterfront you can watch the boatbuilders at work.

Greece has been at the top of the traveling list for many years now. With all its islands surrounded by the amazingly clear blue of the Mediterranean Sea traveling around before was a bit of a challenge and not so convenient. Luckily, in present time there are several ways to find Greek yacht charters to spread the sea from one island to the next. Finding a yacht charter to travel around the Greek islands is made simple and along with the yacht a high quality service is provided.

Carelessly wandering the streets in hope of finding the right mix of food, music, and clientele will leave you exhausted and wondering what the fuss is all about. First, you should think about what it is you are seeking in your night’s entertainment and then approach the concierge or other staff of Mykonos luxury hotels for advice. They live on the island and know all the hot spots, as well as the best ways to get to them.

Looking forward to “people watching” during the evening? Be sure to let the staff of the Mykonos luxury hotels know the kind of people you like to watch. There are many clubs and bars on Mykonos that draw certain ages as well as certain sexual preferences. If you would enjoy observing lively young people of both sexes, meeting and mingling, dancing in the streets (and sometimes on top of the bars,) you will be directed to areas of the town that attract them. Many clubs also cater to a gay population and offer entertainment featuring performers in drag. Perhaps you are hoping to observe a slightly more genteel, sophisticated crowd. The staff of Mykonos luxury hotels is your invaluable source for an enjoyable evening out.

Be sure to let the staff of Mykonos luxury hotels know the type of music you enjoy since the mood for many nightspots is influenced by the music they offer. You will find everything from heavy rock, pop, modern and traditional Greek, to classical music offerings throughout the area. The right music is often key to your satisfaction.

If you are looking for a romantic setting, the staff of the Mykonos luxury hotels will probably direct you to an evening that begins with sunset dining in the Little Venice area. As the golden sun pours itself into the Aegean Sea, reflecting off the white walls of the famous Mykonos windmills, you may decide to spend your evening soaking up the romance in your own quiet world, perhaps back in your own luxurious hotel suite.
