By Kelvin Kong

Today’s hotels do not just rely on quality personnel to provide the excellent service they are known for. They are also dependent on modern technology to help their business succeed and to assist them with their clients. One of the hospitality establishments in Singapore – the Marina Bay Sands – is no exception to this. And so to help it further strengthen its business, it integrated the IDeaS’ V5i Revenue Management System.

For those who are unfamiliar with this state-of-the-art application, IDeaS’ V5i Revenue Management System is a program that helps hotels with their forecasting and their pricing. By having this unique program installed, hotels are able to increase their revenue even more. Aside from that, the program also allows these hotels to look for the right customers who can give them more profit. And in any type of hospitality business, bringing home the bacon and having the right customers are two important factors that can help in their overall success.

Now aside from using the V5i Revenue Management System, the Marina Bay Sands will also be utilizing the SAS Customer Intelligence Software. This application – combined with the V5i System – will further increase the profits of the establishment by managing and retaining profitable customers. Not only that, but the two programs will also help in enhancing the marketing performance of the Marina Bay Sands. By having these two applications do all this, the company will be able to gain more income that can help its businesses stay afloat.

According to Grahame Tate, the Managing Director of IDeas Asia Pacific, the common goal of these two programs is to optimize the revenue of the different businesses that exist within the Marina Bay Sands. The applications will ensure that each one works together as a team to make sure that the expected levels of revenue and profit are met by the company. Tate also added that the establishment is getting a good deal from this since combining the two applications isn’t a normally offered by IDeas.

Now in case you’re wondering why it’s important for the Marina Bay Sands to have all this, it’s real simple: the company operates more than one business. This is why it’s considered a “premier integrated entertainment destination in Singapore. When you visit the Marina Bay Sands, you will see that it holds convention and exhibition facilities, a luxury hotel, the famous rooftop called the Sands Skypark, celebrity chef restaurants, a casino, museum, and its own theatre. All these will be able to now work hand-in-hand the moment the IDeaS’ V5i Revenue Management System and the SAS Customer Intelligence Software are in place.

Thanks to the combined efforts of the IDeas’ V51 Revenue Management System and the SAS Customer Intelligence Software, don’t be surprised if business in the Marina Bay Sands suddenly picks up. Aside from enjoying better forecasting and profit, it will be able to properly take care of its profitable clients. That is something all hotels would like to achieve to help them succeed in their line of work.

By Andy Williamson

Singapore has the busiest port in the world and is an affluent and commercially vibrant country.

The city is split up into areas which include the main business district, Chinatown and Little India. The many races and religions that co-exist in Singapore make it a dynamic and cosmopolitan place.

This is also reflected in Singaporean cuisine. Dining out in Singapore is an unforgettable experience and the combination of Chinese, Malay and Indian foods means that you can taste the most sumptuous oriental cooking here. In fact Singapore is world famous for its cooking so try as many restaurants as you can. If you don’t have a big budget, don’t worry. Food sold by street vendors is often superb too.

Although Malay is the official language of Singapore its importance as south east Asian business centre means that English is widely spoken. However, the local dialect has come to be known as ‘Singlish’ because of the combination of Chinese, Malay and English dialects.

Car hire Singapore is a good way to get around as the road system is not overly complicated. It is possible to drive from Singapore to the peninsular part of Malaysia but check with your rental company about whether you are allowed to do so.

Singapore is known as the Garden City and in its huge international airport alone there is a whole range of flora and fauna to enjoy.

Changi airport has three terminals and is a hub for airlines such as Tiger Air and JetStar.

Car hire Changi is the best way to start your journey through Singapore if you are entering Singapore from abroad. The Singapore roads are maintained perfectly, roads rules are adhered to and driving is on the left.

At night Singapore is dazzling with skyscrapers lit up and many multi coloured lights around the city harbour. Around the Singapore River you will find a collection of theatres and spectacular looking buildings and this is a good place to go for a night out.

Singapore is the second most crowded country is the world with four million people packed onto this relatively small island.

Singapore has a reputation for being boring due to the strict laws there which lead visitors to describe it as the Switzerland of Asia and ‘Disneyland with the death penalty’.

Travellers to Singapore should exercise caution as the country has some fairly draconian rules which include not being allowed to chew gum in public, a ban on public displays of affection and a death penalty policy for drug use.

Bizarrely enough it is also illegal to bring any pirated goods, pornography or publications by Jehovah’s Witnesses into Singapore. You have been warned!

However the benefit of these strict laws is that Singapore has virtually no crime.

In Singapore the climate can be your worst enemy with high temperatures and humidity while months between November and January are the rainiest.

Rhino have main pickup locations througout Singapore including some of the hotels and the main airport called Changi Airport.

Perhaps predictably, perennially successful Singapore is changing as it thrusts forth into the 21st Century. Increasingly, this tiny island in Southeast Asia is throwing off its ‘stopover’ tag and becoming a vacation destination in its own right: Singapore now rivals Milan and New York for shopping; Universal Studio’s have built a theme park here; a world-class casino is about to open.

As the country’s headlining attractions have changed, so too have its hotels – today Singapore boasts an excellent array of boutique hotels, each offering its own individual and highly-personable take on hospitality. These boutique hotels promise to help diffuse the traveler’s criticism that, up until not so long ago, so dogged Singapore: that, however clean and impressive it may have be, it was just a little too sterile to make it as a worthwhile destination.

Boutique Hotels in Singapore

Hotel 1929: This uber-hip hangout is set in the midst of Chinatown, one of Singapore’s most vibrant and happening playgrounds. Decorated with fabric-happy zeal, it’s a compact hotel that makes the most of its space – mirrors, glassy furnishings and white walls help dispel the claustrophobia that can come from time spent in this teeming city. As boutique hotels must, Hotel 1929 comes with a specialty quirk: each room features an item from the owners’ extensive vintage chair collection.

Naumi: Luxurious Naumi speaks of classy designer taste as soon as you enter its doors. Decked out in tasteful white and teak colours, this cosmopolitan hotel is situated in the heart of Downtown Singapore, which makes it perfect for both business and leisure trips. Facilities include a well-equipped gym, an infinity pool, and a restaurant.

Boutique Shopping in Singapore

Takashimiya: Takashimaya has long been the center of attention for high-end shoppers in Singapore. This large, gleaming mall on Orchard Road features an array of designer stores, including boutiques by Cartier, Bvlgari, Emenegildo Zegna, Gucci and Pucci. Today, Takashimaya is rivaled by the ION, another humungous, designer-laden mall just two minutes down the road.

Haji Lane: Haji lane is to Singapore what Brick Lane is to London: small, trendy, and rammed with bargain boutiques. You won’t find diamond-crusted watches here, but the street’s evocative nonetheless, and it makes for a great couple hours of perusal whether you’re buying or not.

Boutique Spas in Singapore

Spa Botanica: This boutique spa on Sentosa (a tiny island connected to Singapore by bridge and cable car) is frequently voted Singapore’s top spa. The Traveller’s Packages are particularly popular – they’re designed to help you recover from long haul flights, or simply escape the tumult of city life.

By Patricia A. Jones

Singapore is commonly known as a shopping haven, a safe and secure traveling destination, a beach and city holiday rolled into one and a meeting point of many cultures and religions. Singapore is also the melting pot of many food and drinks from all over the world.

You can satisfy your gastronomic desire for sumptuous cuisines at any time of the day and anywhere in the island. Singapore’s unique blend of food and drink is considered so special that you can even join the Uniquely Singapore Shop and Eat Tour, and feast in the local cuisine as you explore the city’s ethnic districts and residential neighborhoods.

Here is a list of 7 must-try food and drink when you visit Singapore:

1. Singapore Sling

A cocktail originally invented for the Long Bar in Raffles Hotel in the early 20th century. The original recipe uses gin, cherry brandy and Benedictine, the concoctions though differ in other parts of the country and the world. The drink is shaken and strained into a glass before adding in club soda. You can find the drink in most bars in Singapore and on board flights of Singapore Airlines.

2. Chicken Rice

A local favorite, this dish has been touted as a national dish by several food critics. You can choose a serving of roasted, steamed or barbequed chicken with rice cooked in chicken stock and garlic. Add a dash of chili sauce and dark soy sauce, a plate of chicken rice is both a tasty and filling meal.

3. Laksa

While there are many versions of this dish in Malaysia, a Singapore version has its roots in the Peranakan community. Rice noodles are cooked in coconut spicy gravy and sprinkled with prawns, bean curd and chicken. A very rich and indulgent dish that will leave you craving for more.

4. Fried Carrot Cake

Certainly a comfort food for many Singaporeans, fried carrot cake is a mix of diced radish and egg tossed in soy sauce. A common hawker food, this dish is oily and spicy but promises a truly satisfying gastronomic experience.

5. Indian Rojak

Rojak is loosely used to mean a mix of several ingredients. There are Indian, Indonesian and Chinese rojaks in Singapore. The Indian rojak usually refers to a Muslim-Indian dish comprising of different vegetables, bean curds, fried dough mixtures and seafood served with a spicy and sweet peanut sauce.

6. Satay

If you are familiar with kebabs on skewers in Mediterranean dishes, Satay is the local version of meat on skewers. You can get chicken, beef and lamb Satays served with peanut sauce. Hotels usually add Satays as a side dish to its fried rice or fried noodles.

7. Ice kacang

An all-time favorite, Ice Kacang is a delightful dessert to end a meal. With a base of jelly, red beans, corn and Attap seeds, ice is grated on top of them and topped with various colored sugar syrup and condensed milk. A purely indulgent treat to satisfy your sweet tooth and a great way to quench your thirst in sunny Singapore.

Singapore is a modern cosmopolitan country, with a bustling economy and plenty of luxury amenities for travelers. Singapore fuses traditional Asian and European cultures with the advantages of modernity and progress. Dazzling skyscrapers and restful parks coexist with the click of mah-jongg tablets and the Muslim call to prayer. Safe and well organized, the city represents a great opportunity to enjoy a range of different Asian cultures.

Modern history cast Singapore as an emporium and nowadays its shops offer the finest goods from all around the world. Chinese, Malaysian, French and American cuisines are served in smart restaurants and busy eating centers, winning the island a world-class reputation for excellence in dining.

Singapore enjoys a reputation as one of the region’s safest, cleanest and most comfortable travel destinations. Sure, there are expansive, gleaming malls and sanitized, duty-free complexes throughout the city, but there’s also a side of the city with a distinctly Asian soul: vibrant and slightly chaotic, full of herbal medicine shops, fortune tellers, flower and incense offerings, weathered Chinese junks, traditional villages (kampung), seaside fish stalls, and lively neighborhoods crammed with markets selling baskets, silks, cooking utensils and spices.

There is no better place to experience the best of luxury in Singapore than at a premier luxury hotel in Singapore, the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel Singapore is a five star hotel that offers 550 comfortable rooms that are the epitome of luxury living. The hotel is nestled next to the Singapore River and close to the Central Business District and Orchard Road.
