The Catalan capital has become a much favoured and much talked about destination for travellers in recent years. Ever since it hosted the Olympic Games and regenerated itself as a result it has grown its reputation year by year. There are only a few cities in the world that can now rival Barcelona for the buzz and warmth of a modern vacation city destination. Whether your interests lie in food and eating out, history ancient or modern, shopping or simply chilling in a bar or night club – you are sure to find something wonderful here.

Barceloneta is the main and most popular beach area in Barcelona. Its near to the city centre and easy to access. Wide, with wooden decking – it draws the windsurfing and kite surfing crowds in spring and summer. There is lots of space for sunbathing and simple relaxation and the access to the sea is easy along the whole length of the sands. Food is available from a range of nearby restaurants and car access is easy with lots of parking nearby. ADVICE: RESERVE A TABLE CLOSEST TO THE PORT, ENJOY THE PEOPLE WATCHING WITH A GREAT BOTTLE OF WINE.

To qualify a hotel, we are looking for the X-factor. We’ll always give you a variety of locations (if they exist) and give you the good, the bad and the sometimes ugly parts of each hotel. Then it’s your job to check them out and see which one fits your style.

MARBELLA CLUB HOTEL

THE X-FACTOR: THE OUTSTANDING 5 STAR SERVICE
THE GOOD: THINK FERRARI AND BENTLY. BEAUTIFULLY DESIGNED HOTEL AND ROOMS. CLASSIC UPSCALE STYLE. IT’S PART OF “THE LEADING HOTELS OF THE WORLD”. BEAUTIFUL BEACHES. SUPER CHILL BEACH CLUB.
THE BAD: A LITTLE MORE HIGH BROW AND LESS HIP. BEACH CLUB IS NICE BUT THERE’S NOT MUCH OF A SCENE.
THE UGLY: NOT WORTH THE HEFTY PRICE TAG

THE X-FACTOR: RESTAURANT/ BAR SUITE DEL MAR BAR IN THE MAIN LOBBY. NEED I SAY MORE.
THE GOOD: IT’S PART OF “THE LEADING HOTELS OF THE WORLD”. THE HOTEL HAS 27 SEPARATE BUILDINGS HOUSING THE ROOMS, LOOKS MORE LIKE A NICE APARTMENT COMPLEX THAN HOTEL. GOLF CARTS ARE OFTEN SEEN DRIVING GUESTS AROUND THE RESORT. CLASSIC STYLE DECOR IN THE MAIN LOBBY AND THE ROOMS.
THE BAD: STYLE SEEMS A LITTLE DATED, DOESN’T MATCH THEIR HIP OCEAN FRONT RESTAURANT “SUITE DEL MAR”.
THE UGLY: THE CONCIERGE WE ENCOUNTERED WAS NOT VERY HELPFUL AND SLIGHTLY COLD.

HOTEL DON CARLOS

THE X-FACTOR: ADJACENT TO NIKKI BEACH
THE GOOD: THIS HOTEL HAS SO MUCH POTENTIAL. THE ROOMS ARE A NICE SIZE, MODERN AND VERY CLEAN, THE STAFF IS VERY NICE. THE MOLTON BROWN PRODUCTS SEEM TO BE A HIT. LOTS OF CLOSET SPACE. GREAT BALCONY VIEWS FROM THE UPPER FLOOR ROOMS. GROUNDS ARE NICE.
THE BAD: IN 2007 IT WAS AWARDED A 5 STAR RATING, ALTHOUGH IN OUR OPINION IT WASN’T REALLY EARNED. TRYING TO HARD TO MAKE THE VIBE. THE EXTERIOR IS TERRIBLE, IT SHOULD BE PAINTED STARK WHITE.
THE UGLY: AN AWFUL AMERICAN SONG KARAOKE THE X-FACTOR: RESTAURANT/ BAR SUITE DEL MAR BAR IN THE MAIN LOBBY. NEED I SAY MORE.
